“Vagus Nerve Stimulation may improve outcomes in 30% of cancer patients”

Think the impossible possible. Earlier I wrote, Brain Neuromodulation Therapy from Cyprus: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) for Parkinson’s, Depression, Mild Cognitive Impairment, etc., based on the training by Dr. Petros Kattou from Cyprus. In medical training we are taught that damaged neurons do not regenerate. Until you see and witness what you thought was impossible, many physicians are stuck in that mindset despite overwhelming evidence of neuroplasticity.

The paradigm is shifting. In June, we each presented at IGMEDT Austrian alternative medical conference in Vienna. Dr. Kattou’s brain neuromodulation therapy lecture has been a highlight in the European medical community. I spoke on parasite and cancer connections and how to use Insulin potentiation therapy (IPT) to deliver lower doses of medications with high efficacy and fewer side effects.

Dr. Kattou came to St. Louis in August to co-lead my joint advanced acupuncture meridian assessment (AMA) training and his brain neuromodulation therapy for neurologic disorders – the first time in America. The response has been overwhelmingly positive; it was well attended by physicians and dentists from all over the USA and Europe. Time will tell the impacts of his new ideas on the American medical system: to embrace, or ridicule and resist (the “American way”).

One of the audience members in Vienna asked a question: How long does it take to detect hidden dental problems that did not show on dental X-ray or CBCT? I said, “Five seconds.” I was surprised to hear myself speak quickly without thinking. Five seconds to detect dental problems? It seemed far-fetched that it would take only five seconds. I could not believe what I had said. It took me over ten years of acupuncture meridian assessment (AMA) training and practice, trial and error, to feel comfortable picking up hidden dental infections not visible on dental X-ray or CBCT with strong probability. After thirty years of practice, I can say this with some degree of certainty.

Was I making things up to impress the audience? Time for me to question myself. Typically, I measure forty main acupuncture meridians as a system, somewhat like inspecting or tuning a violin. Each individual measurement may take up to five seconds for forty meridians, a total of two hundred seconds. Each five seconds has an interval with a long or short pause depending on the patient when I interact and ask questions. The whole evaluation may take 10-15 minutes, followed by enhanced interrogation that may take another 10-15 minutes. The whole process takes about 30 minutes.

These five-second intervals of one meridian measurement can tell a patient’s story of many years of suffering. It can be one year, a decade, or more. It often comes down to dental, parasite, and/or fungal problems that have been overlooked by physicians and academic medical institutions. We live in a narrow spectrum of frequency based on our senses to see, feel and measure. AMA evaluation is based on ancient, acupuncture intelligence (AI2) that seems unpredictable, random, non-physical, even non-sense (does not always correspond to western lab test measurements) called Chi, Prana or Life Force.

At the joint AMA/Brain Neuromodulation seminar, 12 advanced neurologic patients were evaluated by Dr. Kattou with his unique brain neuromodulation program using a Plato headset from PlatoScience in Denmark. We did not have the auricular Vagus Nerve stimulation device available at the time of the training. It is too early to tell how they will respond to Plato brain neuromodulation alone. Some of the cases included Parkinson’s disease, cerebellum ataxia from traumatic brain injuries, ALS, glioblastoma multiforme with neuropathy, hemorrhagic stroke in a wheelchair, myalgic-encephalitis (ME) and chronic fatigue syndrome, head dystonia, etc.

On further thought, I should have invited mild to moderate neurologic cases for the training rather than advanced cases. I was hoping for a dramatic miraculous response in our training and that may not be realistic. I wrote about a limping Parkinson’s patient leaping and running after a two-day training in Cyprus. He received combined synergistic tDCS and auricular vagus stimulation together. It may take many weeks to months of treatment to see a response in advanced cases.

Dr. Helmut Retzek of Austria, who introduced me to Dr. Kattou last year, sent a post on the importance of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) for the overall survival of cancer patients. He referenced, “The Role of the Vagus Nerve in Cancer Prognosis: A Systematic and a Comprehensive Review,” from the Journal of Oncology (2018), which reported that VNS increased survival rates by 30%. Vagus nerve stimulation is an important part of brain neuromodulation. Here is a summary from Dr. Retzek’s website:

Vagus stimulation improves cancer prognosis through these mechanisms:

  • Increase in heart rate variability (HRV): Studies show that high HRV, which reflects the activity of the vagus nerve, is associated with better cancer prognosis. Patients with higher HRV have lower mortality rates and better survival rates
  • Reduction of inflammation: The vagus nerve activates the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, which reduces the release of proinflammatory cytokines. This anti-inflammatory effect can slow tumor growth and metastasis
  • Reduction of oxidative stress: Vagal stimulation can reduce the oxidative stress associated with DNA damage and tumor development
  • Influence on tumor immunology: Recent evidence suggests that vagus nerve activity can enhance immune response against tumors by influencing certain immune cells involved in fighting cancer

In summary, high vagus nerve activity improves cancer prognosis through a combination of neurological, immunological and anti-inflammatory effects. There are other means to activate vagus stimulation by meditation, prayer, breathing exercise, yoga exercise, and even, beta-blocker propranolol by blocking the action of adrenaline and down regulating sympathetic nerve system, upregulating counter part of vagus parasympathetic nervous system.

A recent patient, a retired 45-year-old Air Force pilot, had a 4+ year history of muscle fasciculations throughout the body. He had seen five neurologists, had every known test, and was told he had autoimmune disease caused by voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) antibodies which have been associated with Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS): an autoimmune disease that affects neuromuscular junctions. The causes are unknown. Symptoms include proximal muscle weakness, areflexia, and autonomic dysfunction. About 85% of LEMS patients test positive for VGCC antibodies. No lab tests were available to verify his medical diagnosis on his visit.

On AMA evaluation, his main problems were his dental-oral cavity with two impacted wisdom teeth pressing on his trigeminal nerve, low-grade infections surrounding the impacted teeth, and environmental toxins from heavy metals, petrochemicals and possible fungal mycotoxins. Otherwise, he was physically fit and could expect to fly for many years to come as a commercial airline pilot. He had subtle muscle fatigue with a simple rapid forced fist closure test. In my experience, if his underlying conditions are not corrected, he will have many different manifestations of medical and neurological conditions, and perhaps eventual diagnosis of ALS ten years later. Here is his AMA Evaluation chart. Ly stands for dental, Al for allergy-immunology, and 3E for hormonal imbalance; these blue bars are low; the green bars are in normal range.

AMA Evaluation of Retired Air Force Pilot

My 5-second interval 40-AMA point evaluation picked up dental, allergy-immunology, and hormone disturbances. I referred him to an oral surgeon, with brain neuromodulation as a recommended preventative measure. Oral surgeons often decline to extract impacted wisdom teeth as a risky operation, possibly damaging the nerve, but at what cost? AMA, oral surgery and brain neuromodulation may change the course of this pilot’s life by tapping into the ancient intelligence of acupuncture intelligence (AI2). This is my deep dive into 5-second Quantum Random Non-Sense AI2.

I recommend investigating SOZO Brain Center at the AIMIS Clinic in Cyprus and Dr. Petros Kattou for treatment or training. Dr. Helmut Retzek of Austria is the second-most experienced physician on Brain Neuromodulation therapy in Europe. I have limited experience with Brain Neuromodulation and am building it into my broader practice step by step. It is not as simple as you may expect for a 5-second AMA evaluation to relieve 10 years of suffering, but it is possible.
